I once spent an entire Saturday in the wrong day. I did all of the Sunday things, planning for an early evening to prepare for Monday’s “work-tivities.” Meanwhile it was Saturday the entire time, and I had no idea. Once I discovered my mistake, I spent the remainder of my new-found Saturday excitedly telling people it was, in fact, only SATURDAY, and that there was a whole Sunday to look forward to tomorrow. They responded by staring at me blankly and much like there was something wrong with me, but I didn’t care, because I had just stumbled upon the ever elusive “free time.”
What would you do for more time? They say time slips away from us, but when we somehow manage to capture it, it’s like winning the lottery. We create tricks and tools so that we can carve out time for additional activities. In the business world, we can redistribute that time toward more projects and therefore, more business. It’s just a matter of discovering those tricks and tools, and I’m about to stock your Time-Saver Tool Kit.
Tool #1: Early Planning and Collaboration
In the process of building any project, the first step is to create a plan. While planning is the fun part, it can also be the overwhelming part. Take it from a writer: staring at a blank page is like staring up at your own personal Everest. This is why you need to enlist your own “event planner,” to arrange your time so that everything gets organized and completed in the most efficient way possible. When you’re building something from scratch (or upgrading an existing structure), it’s important to have an expert manage the project without any errors or setbacks. For example, if you want to implement a video wall into your business, you’ll need to enlist the help of a mounting expert with the experience and understanding of structural challenges. Did you know that video wall displays increase in size due to thermal expansion, causing them to shift and potentially cause damage to the ultra-narrow bezel displays when weight is transferred into neighboring displays? Tools like the GAPit™ determine if the recommended gap specification of .050” is maintained vertically and horizontally and can help avoid image quality degradation, costly repairs or equipment replacement. For the most part, clients outside of the realm of the AV world have one simple demand: I want that display. Many people might not consider the factors involved with display weight consideration, wiring, or the connection between the building’s wall structure and the video wall. There’s no shame in not being an expert on every single project, but it is all the more reason to consult with mounting experts who have experienced the ins and outs of integration challenges, and can collaborate with architects and integrators to assure a streamlined project process.
Tool #2: Simplified Project Execution
Most of us are familiar with the unyielding process that IS opening the modern “kid’s toy.” It’s like an intricate game of adult patience to untie all 17,000 of those zip ties. I recently took a very unofficial survey, and 2 out of 2 people agreed that they could’ve watched the entire LOTR (Lord of the Rings) trilogy before they can unwrap and assemble their most recent kid’s toy store purchase. That isn’t very time efficient. Time saving tools are here to help us, especially in the business world. Subassembly of parts and pre-packaged tool kits are big timesavers when installers need to be able to go from start to finish in no time flat. We recently created a line of partially-assembled products that would need to be mass assembled for a large venue, while using minimal manpower and in as few steps as possible. Aside from our Universal Hardware Pack, which includes everything you need in one convenient kit, our engineers designed a mount that would arrive pre-assembled and essentially ready to remove from the box, mount, and move on to the next one. This was a huge timesaver for the client, who was able to make their tight deadline with time to spare.
Tool #3: Creative Tools
Remember the Spork? It’s a spoon and a fork rolled into one. Somebody was sitting there one day and thought, “why have two tools when I can do the job with one?” Innovative thinking solves problems by taking challenges, or tasks, and finding new ways to accomplish them by thinking outside of the box. Multi-functional tools and techniques help us accomplish projects within a fraction of the time/space, such as with our PSD-MTC Mobile Transport Cart. This innovative Rental & Staging tool allows installers to transport and store up to 4 TS and/or TL Bases, along with their corresponding poles, mounts, and adapters, in a quarter of the time AND space it would have taken without the cart. I can already see the new tagline: Premier Mounts’ Mobile Transport Cart, The Spork of the R&S industry. Another handy tool is the PSD-HDCA adapter, which allows installers to mount flat panels directly to any dual-pole cart or stand without the need to lift the display up and over the top of the poles. In addition, flat panels can be mounted to the PSD-HDCA independently in under a minute, then transferred to your desired location.
The concept of time saving technology isn’t rocket science, it’s just a matter of working smarter, rather than harder. But you’re already working hard (and smart, of course!) on your own business success, which is why it’s important to involve project management experts who work just as smart as you do. Once you have the right team together, you’re already ahead of the curve, which will save you time, money, and stress.
…It’ll be like you’ve gained a free Saturday.
